In Povo, Templates work like Wikipedia, but they also can contain functionality via our embedded scripting language, Lingua.

Often, the easiest way to build a template is to look at an existing template such as the restaurant template. You can also use the Preview tab to see how your template will look when passed certain arguments.

Italicizing and Bolding Text

To italicize text, place it within two apostrophes. For example:

To bold text, place it within three apostrophes. For example:

'''bold'''

To italicize and bold text, place it within five apostrophes. For example:

'''''italic and bold'''''

Bulleted and Numbered Lists

To create a bulleted list, place each of your list items on separate lines with an asterisk at the beginning of each line. For example:

* one
* two
* three

…will appear as:

one
two
three

To create sublists within a list, just add additional asterisks. For example:

* one
* two
** two point one
*** two point one point one
** two point two
* three

…will appear as:

one
two
- two point one
  - two point one point one
- two point two
three

To create a numbered list, use pound signs instead of asterisks. For example:

# one
# two
## two point one
### two point one point one
## two point two
# three

…will appear as:

three

Linking to Other Pages

If you wish to link to another Povo page, place the name of the page in two sets of square brackets. For example:

[[page name]]

…will appear as:

page name

If you want your link to have different text than just the name of the target Povo page, add a pipe character followed by the text you want to appear in the link. For example:

[[name of page|display text]]

…will appear as:

display text

If the link appears blue (like this), then the page exists. However, if the link appears red (like this), then the page you are linking to does not exist at the moment.

To link to web pages outside of Povo, simply add the full web address of the page. For example:

http://www.example.org

…will appear as:

http://www.example.org

If you want your link to appear with different text, add a space and then the desired text after the web address. A single set of square brackets required. For example:

[http://www.example.org external link]

…will appear as:

external link
