Sunday Brunch at the Beehive My friend and I were looking for Sunday brunch yesterday in the South End so of course there were barely any tables to be found. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar at The Beehive. Even though it's a place I generally don't seek out because it's always so crowded at night, the brunch experience was awesome. It was laid back but the band made it such an event! I had this baked egg dish with polenta, North African tomato sauce, and toasted flat bread. It was delicious. The dish was an excellent combination of textures and had very full flavors - but nothing overpowered anything else - it was perfectly balanced. The service at the bar was great - very nice people and prompt attention. The band had a female singer who had a beautiful voice which was the perfect background for the food. The prices were fairly reasonable - I think my dish was $11. The only minor criticism I have would be the bloody marys - they were fine but not great. And they were pretty expensive at $10 and very small. Aside from that, it was excellent. I feel like going there every weekend.

Awesome stuff. Kind of expensive but they have good sales.

Had brunch here this weekend and it was great! I got the lobster and corn omelet and my friend got the croque monsieur. Both were delicious. The people were super nice (as soon as we walked in the door the host greeted us like we were showing up for a party!). The service was a tiny bit slow but not awful by any stretch. It's a little loud but really fun atmosphere.

I had dinner here the other night and it was just not that good. The food there used to be really good. Maybe an inexperienced cook was working that night. I had the braised lamb with pasta. The pasta was good. But the lamb was boring and the sauce needed more reducing. My companion's risotto was undercooked. The servers there aren't that nice either. I'm kind of over Delux.

I ate at Banq last night and it was really really good! For my appetizer, I had a little tiny beet salad (from the "Asian Amuse" menu). Cute little beets! For the main course, I had the short ribs. They were so delicious and tender - I could cut the meat with my fork. The sauce was amazing (kaffir lime jus). So were the cumin and scallion tossed yams. It came with a few other things which I couldn't tell you what they were - but they were absolutely delicious! They have an extensive wine list and our bottle was a syrah from the "light reds" wine section. They divide the sections into light, medium, and heavy bodied reds and whites - that was cool for me. The service was also really really good. I definitely recommend Banq.

I had the $15 Chinese Chicken Salad last night at Stephanie's. I really couldn't believe how bad it was. I could have gotten a better one at Chili's for half the price. The "mixed lettuce" was really just iceberg. There seemed to be some sort of spaghetti mixed in. The plum vinaigrette was this thick non-descript muck. The rest of it was just bland bland bland. I usually love Stephanie's but the last few times I've tried it, it's been very disappointing - especially for the money.
